Overview
The George & Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation’s (CHI) Patient and Public Engagement Collaborative Partnership brings together people with diverse lived and living experiences to help shape CHI’s programs, priorities, resources and approaches to engagement. As part of this work, the Collaborative Partnership is embarking on a co-designed research project exploring the impact of patient and public engagement.
In this session, members will share perspectives emerging from their work and reflect on what it means to understand the impact of engagement from the perspectives of the people involved, including what meaningful engagement can change, whose perspectives and outcomes matter when assessing impact, and what we can learn by involving patient and public partners in defining and studying engagement itself. The specific focus and content of the session will be shaped by Collaborative Partnership members as their research project develops.
Learning Objectives
- • Explore different ways of understanding the impact of patient and public engagement, including impacts that may extend beyond traditional measures of engagement success.
- • Consider whose perspectives, experiences and priorities should inform how engagement impact is understood and evaluated.
- • Describe the value of involving patient and public partners in defining, exploring and studying the impact of engagement.
- • Reflect on implications for their own engagement practice, including how they recognize, learn from and communicate the difference engagement makes.
