Overview

Engagement doesn’t happen in a vacuum—it happens between people whose bodies, identities, and lived experiences shape the dynamics of every engagement.

This webinar explores how power, positionality, and emotional labour influence engagement spaces. Participants will learn how to recognize embodied dynamics, reflect on their own positionality, and apply practical strategies to create safer, more equitable engagement environments in both health research and health system contexts.

Learning Objectives

  • • Define embodiment in the context of patient and public engagement.
  • • Recognize how bodies, identities, and positionalities shape power and knowledge in engagement spaces.
  • • Reflect on their own embodied presence and positionality in engagement contexts.
  • • Identify practices to support more trauma-informed, inclusive, and reflexive engagement.
  • • Apply embodied awareness to improve facilitation, planning, and evaluation of engagement.
