The Public and Patient Engagement Lunchtime Learning (PELL) series introduces participants to the principles of public and patient engagement in health research. Participants will learn how to build meaningful partnerships between researchers and people with lived experience to inform decision-making and improve clinical and practice outcomes.

Overview

Evaluation is critical to understanding the impact of engagement, ensuring accountability, and driving improvement. This session introduces practical approaches to evaluating patient and public engagement in both research and health system contexts. Participants will learn how to choose meaningful measures, combine qualitative and quantitative methods, and use evaluation results to strengthen engagement practices.

Objectives

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • • Describe the purposes and levels of evaluation (process, outputs, outcomes) for PPE;
  • • Identify commonly used frameworks, methods, and tools (e.g., PPEET, GRIPP2, IAP2);
  • • Select appropriate evaluation approaches for different contexts and goals.; and
  • • Plan next steps to embed evaluation into their engagement activities collaboratively with patient/public partners.
