Description


The innovative, interdisciplinary CREATE program in Visual and Automated Disease Analytics (VADA), led by researchers from the University of Manitoba and University of Victoria, offers a 5-days intensive Summer School on automated analytics, and data visualization techniques and methods. The 2018 VADA Summer School will consist of: a student‐led research conference, a Big Data Challenge, and professional skill development sessions. The student‐led research conference will feature with wide-ranging talks on the innovative visual and automated analytical methods and skills, given by leading researchers and industry experts in the field. The Big Data Challenge will provide an excellence opportunity for  the participating students to tackle an automated analytic or visualization problem using a real‐world, complex health data-sets. Training in R, Tableau, and Python software packages will be offered during the Big Data Challenge. Professional skill development sessions will emphasize core competencies: responsible conduct of research; professional and personal improvement; project management; entrepreneurism.

The 2018 VADA Summer School accepts graduate students (both MSc and Ph.D levels) and undergraduate students with backgrounds in statistics, mathematics, computer sciences, health informatics, epidemiology, and other related- disciplines.
