How to Address Material Incidental Findings Guidance in Applying TCPS 2 (2018) Article 3.4

CHI hosts the Winnipeg Chapter of the Society of Clinical Research Associates (SOCRA) and provides an opportunity for local SOCRA members to network, learn, and earn continuing education credits for SOCRA CCRP recertification. All, including non-members, are welcome to attend upcoming SOCRA events and past events are available for viewing.

The presentation will review the new TCPS2 (2018) guidance document titled “How to Address Material Incidental Finding” created to assist researchers and Research Ethics Boards (REBs) in applying TCPS 2 (2018) Article 3.4.

Objectives:

  • To define incidental finding and material incidental findings as they relate to research.
  • To understand the determinants of what makes an incidental findings material and who would make this assessment.
  • To understand/review the guidance set out in the guidance document relating to the management of material incidental findings during the course of a research project.
  • To understand the obligations set out in the guidance document relating to Researchers’ Communication about Material Incidental Findings
