Description

Description

Most preoperative lab tests for minor surgery are unnecessary, inefficient and potentially harmful. Join us to learn about the strategies used to implement

revised preoperative diagnostic testing guidelines in Manitoba. With broad stakeholder engagement, the George & Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare innovation in partnership with Choosing Wisely Manitoba achieved a 38% reduction in preoperative tests and a 34% reduction in unnecessary testing.

Learning Objectives

  1. To describe a region-wide health system change that provides patient-focused care by reducing medically-unnecessary preoperative tests.
  2. To report the implementation strategies used to enhance the adoption, implementation and sustainability of guidelines across multiple physician disciplines and multiple care sites.
  3. To explain the individual physician audit and feedback process currently in place to ensure sustainability, improve performance and support guideline adherence.
