Description

Popular traditional medicines from Indonesia are known as Jamu. In this talk we will explore and explain interesting patterns in the formulation of Indonesian Jamu medicines by utilizing data-intensive science and machine learning methods. Next, we will extend the talk on the analysis for predicting Jamu efficacy based on metabolite composition and identifying important metabolites.

Objectives

  1. To promote an understanding of the relationship between chronic and infectious diseases in humans and traditional medicines from Indonesia.
  2. To share recent metabolomics studies of Jamu medicines that can shed light on disease-metabolite relationships.
  3. To describe research to develop a measure of the similarity of metabolites that is based on receiver operating characteristic curve analyses.

Speaker

Md. Altaf-Ul-Amin received his B.Sc. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, his MS from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and his PhD from the Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST) in Japan.
