Learning Objectives:

 DAY 1

  • Introduction to different types of evidence comparisons: direct, indirect and mixed treatment
  • Core concepts of mixed treatment/network meta-analysis (NMA)
    comparisons (e.g. nodes, symmetry, transitivity)
  • Reporting guidance: the PRISMA extension for network meta-analyses
  • Critical appraisal of NMAs

 

DAY 2

  • Applied NMA/statistical analysis; working through set examples using NMA software
    (e.g. NetMetaXL)

 

About the Speaker:

Brian Hutton completed his PhD in Epidemiology at McGill University in 2011 after earning his MSc in Statistics at Carleton University in 2003. He served as a professor for graduate courses in systematic reviews and health technology assessment in the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Epidemiology and Community Medicine in 2010 and 2011. Brian is currently a senior methodologist with the group, and focuses his research time in the areas of systematic reviews, meta-analysis and network meta-analysis and rapid reviews.

Brian worked as a researcher and advisor with the Canadian Agency for Drugs and Technologies in Health from 2008-2011, and prior to that spent 2003-2008 working as a biostatistician and methodologist with the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute’s Methods Center and Transfusion Research Group. Recently he received a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
