Description

November 2016 - CHI worked with Diagnostic Services Manitoba (DSM) through the Choosing Wisely Manitoba initiative, to surpass their project goal of achieving a 50 per cent reduction in Vitamin D testing in Manitoba.

The initiative went live in February 2016 and as of September 2016 data shows an 86 per cent reduction in Vitamin D testing. This is up from 67 per cent as of May 1, 2016. There is a forecasted cost savings to the health-care system of $659,000 for 2016 and $785,000 for 2017.

The project aimed to ensure only patients with the necessary medical indications were tested. Not only does reduction of testing reduce inefficient use of health-care resources but it also reduces undue stress for patients and their families.
