Overview

You landed yourself in a leadership position, but medical school did not prepare you for the
avalanche of KPIs, HSMR, CIHI, SBAR and other issues, or to understand complex organizational
financial statements. This course will equip you with the tools you need to investigate complaints
fairly and compassionately, navigate budget processes successfully, manage meetings to achieve
results, develop a business proposal, and measure performance to improve quality.

Who should take this course
This course is open to anyone, particularly new or aspiring physician managers & leaders.

Learning objectives
• Identify physician leaders’ roles, capabilities and attitude for leading and managing in health care
• Create a business case and its advocacy strategy
• Apply budget management frameworks and tools to financial issues
• Determine effective ways to investigate a complaint about clinical care
• Identify strategies for promoting desired behaviors and monitoring performance
• Discuss effective use of various communication frameworks, techniques and strategies
