Description


André Picard is one of Canada’s top health and public policy observers and commentators. He is the health columnist at The Globe and Mail, where he has been a staff writer for more than 30 years. He is the author of 5 books, including Matters of Life and Death: Public Health Issues in Canada. He has received much acclaim for his writing and for his dedication to improving healthcare, with awards such as the Centennial Prize of the Pan-American Health Association, awarded to the top health journalist in the Americas. In 2010, he was the recipient of a National Newspaper Award as Canada’s top newspaper columnist. Mr. Picard is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, and has received honourary doctorates from six universities, including the University of Toronto, UBC, and the University of Manitoba
Mr. Picard will be examining the challenges in Canada’s medicare system, drawing from both historical and current social responsibility perspectives. He will address needed systemic changes and speak to the role and delivery of psychological services in our universal health system.
