The data repository at the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy (MCHP) consists of more than 70 routinely collected health and social datasets from the government of Manitoba and the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, with more being added all the time. This talk will provide an introduction to some of the datasets, with particular emphasis on clinical and newer acquisitions, along with the online tools available for accessing more information. A discussion of data dictionaries and data quality reports will round out the discussion of available online documentation tools. A brief summary of the process for accessing information for research, along with relevant links on the MCHP website, will be provided. Finally, an overview of datasets that are scheduled for acquisition will be included.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about datasets that have recently been added to the Manitoba Population Research Data Repository.
  • Gain a better understanding of the different types of data held in the Repository, with an emphasis on clinical data.
  • Learn about the process for accessing repository data for research purposes.

About the Speaker: Mark Smith is the Associate Director in charge of the data repository at the Manitoba Centre for Health Policy. He has extensive experience in health research with expertise in business intelligence, analytics and privacy. He is also a research scientist at MCHP and has participated on a number of Public Health Agency of Canada chronic disease surveillance committees including the Canadian Chronic Disease Surveillance System Scientific Committee, the Hypertension Outcomes and Surveillance Team, and as co-chair of the Mental Health Surveillance Advisory Committee.
