What’s New in the Manitoba Population Research Data Repository - CHI Grand Rounds

JANUARY 17 12PM - THEATRE C BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCES BUILDING This talk will provide an introduction to some of the datasets, with particular emphasis on clinical and newer acquisitions, along with the online tools available for accessing more information. A discussion of data dictionaries and data quality reports will round out the discussion of available online documentation tools. A brief summary of the process for accessing information for research, along with relevant links on the MCHP website, will be provided. Finally, an overview of datasets that are scheduled for acquisition will be included.

Thursday, January 19, 2017 – Patient Engagement in Clinical Trials Research: Moving from Participants to Partners ---- Carolyn Shimmin, BJournalism/Poli Sci, MWS Patient and Public Engagement Lead | Knowledge Translation | George & Fay Yee Centre for Healthcare Innovation ---- We will explore how to actively and meaningfully involve patients, informal caregivers and members of the public in clinical trials research processes including helping to: identify research priorities and outcomes of importance; clarify the research question; develop the research design and approach; conduct the research; interpret the findings; and disseminate the results. Issues around planning for engagement, compensation of patient partners, building a budget and recruitment will be discussed.

DSM Research Support Office: A Centralized Approach to Laboratory Research

Thursday, Feb 16, 2017 | 12-1pm – DSM Research Support Office: A Centralized Approach to Laboratory Research featuring Laura Curtis, Research Specialist, Diagnostic Services Manitoba. Laura Curtis will speak on the DSM Research Support Office (RSO) and its vision to support researchers to enhance research in Manitoba, to provide a central point of contact via a virtual office and to create a streamlined standardized approach for laboratory research requests. She will also discuss the past and future states of the research process to show how the RSO will benefit researchers in Manitoba.
